DETAILED DESIGN

Report

The Adelaide City Council recognized that stormwater generated from the processing and storage area contains pollutants. In this regard, it cannot be disposed of the site without being treated. According to Environmental Protection Authority (Water Quality) Policy (2003), it is not acceptable to discharge contaminated water into land or water to avoid waste entering the water courses. The Policy further mentioned that treatment should be done in a proper manner to minimise environmental harm. However, the site also experiences flooding due to insufficient capacity of the drainage infrastructures. Feasibility studies were conducted and viable engineering solutions were recommended for detailed design. The recommended option was called Water Sensitive Urban Design technologies and Low Impact Designs. Adelaide City Council engaged Harmony Consultancy Company to undertake the detailed designs.
